Product Description
I was visiting a friend, looking out of the conservatory windows, we saw three red kites over Amberley, circling in the field .We watched them swooping and hovering for a good half hour, before they took themselves away. I knew it was a memory that I needed to record in felt. So I took plenty of photos, this is the finished piece. I loved attempting to recollect and create the birds as I could remember them and their circling movements. They were so aware of each others presence and seemed to be surveying the whole area , each investigating separate place to search for food. In this process , it was the first time I have overlaid wool in stages building up from the background. I drew with the wool on the originally felted background landscape in lines delineating the fields and rolls of the hills. The sky was built up in this way too, using mauves and purples to bring the pale blue sky to life. The church at Woodchester is sitting comfortably within the landscape as it has for so many years. The foliage in the foreground is spilling out from the scene, directing the viewer to the red kite in the foreground with its intricately felted wings and three dimensional body hovering in display for the viewer to see. The size of Red kites over Amberley framed measures 20cm x 25cm.
