Product Description
Wasps pathway was felted as a direct response to a wasps nest appearing on the outside of my house last summer. Waiting for them to die off and leave, with help I removed the nest carefully and kept the intricate structure. Taking it out this year to sketch the wonderful home, observing the intricate patterns and textures made by these tiny creatures. The design and structure of the nest was quite incredible and hard to believe these tiny insects could create something not only functional but incredibly beautiful. I subsequently made this piece in homage to the wasps themselves. I began with sketching then started needle felting around the actual wasps nest, a playful, free experimental composition tracing the pathways the wasps may have taken when laying their larvae in their tiny hexagonal tombs. This is another of my more experimental pieces where I use found objects alongside needle felting techniques, I hope you find it interesting. Wasps pathway framed it measures 35cm x 35cm, the actual felted area is 25cm x 25cm.
