Winter trees is a felted scene from a photo I took in my local woodlands this winter. I would walk here regularly, watching the seasons change throughout the months. In winter the woods were stark and trees cut lonely figures against the clear sky. My vantage point for this piece was looking up towards the sky, the canopy of leaves long gone, just a view of spindly branches reaching upwards to the light. The strong tree trunks hold their brittle branches as they search out the sky. I love the colour of the wool I have used for the sky, it is a mix of purples and blues, lilacs giving an heir of freezing atmosphere. I hope I captured the cold starkness of the scene and it is conveyed to the viewer. Winter tress is a small felted piece measuring 23cm x 23cm the actual felted area 13cm x 13cm.
