Product Description

Ganesh Satsanga retreat is a piece I conceived away in Goa at a yoga retreat .I photographed a statue of Ganesh, Hindu God of beginnings, at the yoga retreat in February 2020. He sat amid the busy goings on at the retreat surveying all who passed by. He cut a very imposing figure, very colourful and detailed his hand gestures and feet so very expressive. Here is my representation in needle felt, I tried to emulate this grand figure. He is boldly colourful and was great fun to felt in 3D, using photographic elements alongside needle felting. The musicians were playing beautiful sitar music early one morning after our yoga practice. I wanted to evoke these memories by including their image in the piece. This photographic image sits comfortably nestled in the piece adding another dimension, another texture and dialogue.  This was quite an experiment adding this technique to my needle felting , I think it works really well and sits quietly in the piece, I am very pleased with this image .I particularly love the way the wool lends itself to expressing the drape of the fabric that Ganesh wears, it really gives a three dimensional quality in felt and the bright colours are so uplifting and dynamic.  Ganesh signifies hope and aspirations, he is remover of obstacles, and thought to bring good luck. He was so joyful to felt, building him up three dimensionally, he protrudes out of the picture, in his grandiose manner, capturing a character from the aged stone carving. Ganesh Satsanga retreat is a large needle felted picture measuring 50cm x 50cm , the actual felted area is 30cm x 30cm.
