Buddha satsanga retreat is a piece I felted after staying at this beautiful yoga retreat,this beautiful statue greeted me every morning as I made my way to early meditation practice. It was eerily quiet as we made our way to the yoga studio walking by the incredible statue, feeling like we were being observed. The statue had such an awe inspiring stature, imposing itself upon everyone who walked past. I tried to capture this grandness in my needle felted piece, showing the details on the statue. The folds in the stone I represented with folds in the wool, giving the sense of detail in 3 dimensions. The facial expression was difficult to capture, the serenity and placid look to a meditating Buddha. I hope I captured the texture of stone with the use of the soft wools, and the wonderful lush foliage. I used bright lime greens and darker tones of green which contrast strongly with the bright yellows and oranges and pinks of the stunning flowers adorning and above the statue. I thoroughly enjoyed felting this piece, it was a meditation in itself, honouring my time spent at the retreat. Buddha satsanga retreat measures 50cm x 50cm framed , the actual felted area is 30 cm x 30cm.
